PUPPY PROOFING YOUR HOME
Before your puppy comes home please provide a safe home environment. Below is
some helpful information to ensure your new family member stays safe and happy!!
Blocking off access to stairways, ledges and balconies in your home and other elevated areas.
Bookshelves, tables, lamps properly secured to prevent tipping and falling on your dog.
Narrow spaces such as by the refrigerator and other free standing appliances, denied.
All items smaller than a tennis ball picked up from the floor (coins, tacks, toys, and so on.
Medications, don't leave on end tables or night stands. This breed will get on your end tables.
Bundle and hide exposed electrical cords. Puppies love to chew on electrical cords. Electrocution is a real danger if they chew through an electrical wire. Many Veterinarians often
treat puppies that have had burns to their mouths.
Bundle cords from your blinds and place up high or you can cut the loop in the cord. They can pose a strangulation hazard.
Candles, Never leave a candle unattended. They can be dislodged by the swat of a paw or a wag of a tail.
Recliner/Rockers - Puppies love to crawl under things! This may harm a puppy's tail, leg or worse cause death!! They love to hide. Please place a big pillow under the chair to stop up the hole and always be aware when you bring the leg rest down.
Keep laundry baskets off the floor, swallowed clothing may cause a dangerous intestinal blockage. Keep socks, nylons, underwear and other clothing up and off the floor.
Do not use automatic toilet bowl cleaners or leave toilet bowl cleaner in the bowl soaking. Keep
household cleansers and detergents in upper cabinets.
OUTSIDE HAZARDS
BROWN / COCOA MULCH Some products of this mulch may still contain the chemical
theobromine along with caffeine. Theobromine is lethal to dogs and cats! This mulch smell sweet and dogs have eaten the mulch and become very ill, others have died.
Theobromine is used to make chocolate, especially dark or bakers chocolate. All is toxic to your dog.
This warning dates back to 2003, but with spring and yard work in full swing I thought It would be a great reminder. You may want to choose another mulch for your garden areas, such as
cedar based products.
TOXIC OUTSIDE PLANTS
Azaleas, calla lilies, sago plams oleander, rhododendron just to name a few.
GARAGE HAZARDS
Please keep fertilizers, weed killers, pesticides, oil, gasoline in a designated cabinet (locked).
ANTIFREEZE IS DEADLY TO YOUR DOG!!! Please keep out of reach of your animals. Antifreeze leaking from your car on the garage floor is a hazard to your dog also, It is sweet and they will lick it !!!!
Your puppy is depending on you to keep him safe and happy!! Here at the Doggie Den
